Boomerang shows Now out on DVD and Blu-ray

Sorry I'm late with this one, but yesterday some Boomerang shows ended up on DVD.  First up, Warner Home Video released Wabbit: Hare Raising Tales.  As the cover says, this set includes 26 episodes on 2 discs.  This was one of Boomerang's first original animated series.  Based on the classic Looney Tunes character, Wabbit features Bugs Bunny outwitting his foes.  This is the first time Wabbit has been out on DVD.

Kino released many Depatie Freleng titles.  They include The Inspector, The Ant and the Aardvark, and Crazylegs Crane.  These shorts have been remastered and restored.  These also aired with the Pink Panther many years ago for Saturday Morning.  We doubt that Crazylegs Crane was on Boomerang, but for sure The Inspector was and maybe The Ant and the Aardvark as part of the Pink Panther compilation.  Of course these no longer air on Boomerang.  Kino has begun sub-licensing these cartoons from MGM with more titles coming soon.

Wabbit can be seen everyday on Boomerang

Boomerang Schedule Update: Peanuts set to premiere May 5th. Another movie block added.

Good grief!  Boomerang began running promos for another series premiere for Boomerang.  Originally released if France but will now be dubbed into English, Boomerang will begin running the new Peanuts series.  These were originally shorts, but it looks as though they will be put together as half hour shows.  The series will premiere May 9th at 11:30am ET.  Check out the trailer right now.

The news was originally broken to us back in October.  Based on the popular comic strip by Charles Schultz, Peanuts follows the story of Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, and the rest of the Peanuts gang including the world's most popular beagle....Snoopy.  Nearly 50 years worth of comic strips, followed by many TV specials and five feature films including the recent Peanuts Movie, the characters has since become beloved around the world.  This blog will now cover any news about the Peanuts gang from this day forward.

The schedule change will become effective on Monday May 9th.  It looks as though Looney Tunes will be cut down to an hour to accommodate, but stay tuned for updates there.  In addition, starting this weekend there will be another movie block starting at 3:30pm ET.  We've also noticed a show leaving Boomerang: Transformers.  That means Tom and Jerry will get their 6am ET slot back to 2 hours.  Stay tuned for further updates

Actor Arthur Anderson passes away

Movie Pilot reports that actor Arthur Anderson passed away at the age of 93.  Best known for his works in radio, TV, and movies, Anderson may be best known for Boomerang and Cartoon Network as the voice of Eustace Bagg on Courage the Cowardly Dog.  Anderson is also best known as the voice of Lucky the Leprechaun for General Mills' Lucky Charm.

Anderson took over the role in 2002 when previous actor, Lionel G Wilson, passed away.  He continued voicing Eustace until the show's cancellation that same year.

Courage the Cowardly Dog airs everyday on Boomerang.  Many condolences to the family at this time.

WB Announces S.C.O.O.B.

WB announced yesterday on EW that a new Scooby-Doo reboot is in development.  Titled S.C.O.O.B. this reboot is said to crossover some other Hanna-Barbera characters.  The characters that will be used are unknown, but the most popular ones other than Scooby include The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Yogi Bear.

Hanna-Barbera joined the WB library in 1996.  This was through the Turner merger (who acquired the library in 1991).  Hanna-Barbera has become a major part of Boomerang.  Thoiugh not all of the cartoons no longer air, some still do such as Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, and The Smurfs.  Formed in 1957 by former MGM Cartoon directors/producers Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, the studio created tons of cartoons for television using limited animation but with great writers, character designers, and voice over artists.  The studio helped form Saturday Morning Cartoons and was the first studio to air cartoons in prime time.

Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, and The Smurfs air everyday on Boomerang.
