Deadline reports that Alcon Entertainment has been given exclusive rights to make new CGI Garfield animated features. Alcon hopes to bring this series into a franchise series.
Garfield has starred in features before starting with the two live action/animated features followed by straight to DVD films fully animated in CGI before landing a full CGI animated series called the Garfield Show.
Based on the comic strip by Jim Davis, Garfield tells the tale of a cat owner named John Arbuckle whose cat named Garfield is lazy, hates Mondays, and loves lasagna. Garfield has since become one of the most popular comic strips of all time appearing in many movies, TV specials, and two TV series.
The Garfield Show airs everyday on Boomerang.
