TONIGHT: The Grinch moves from ABC to NBC

Yes I am playing catch-up, but Deadline back in August reported that Dr.Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas made the move from ABC to NBC.  This is an exclusive 3 year deal which starts tonight at 9pm ET on NBC following the Rockefeller Tree Lighting Event.  The Grinch previously aired on ABC for 10 years and is the first TV special to have aired on all 3 networks at one point or another.

Based on the book by Dr. Seuss and directed by Chuck Jones at MGM, The Grinch is a holiday classic telling the true meaning of Christmas featuring the many sounds of Boris Karoff.  The special has since continued to air year after year becoming a major staple of TV specials along the likes of Frosty and Rudolph.  Nearing it's 50th Anniversary, this special still holds up after all these years.

The Grinch has aired numerous occasions during Boomerang's Christmas Party as well as other Turner networks such as TBS and Cartoon Network.  No word yet on the fate of Boomerang's Christmas Party since the re-brand, but stay tuned for the latest.

New Samurai Jack on the way

The adventure continues with Samurai Jack.  adult swim announced on Twitter today that a new Samurai Jack series will be heading to Toonami.  The series will premiere sometime in 2016.  Created by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory, Hotel Transylvania), this animated series follows a hero's journey to head back to the past when Aku traps Jack into the future.  The series ended in 2004 leaving fans hanging.

Boomerang reran the series around 2009 when they were starting to pick up Cartoon Network original series.  It left in 2014 in hype of the rebrand, but reruns moved over to Toonami where it aired there until the cut down

Be sure to check out my buddy, Josh's Building a Better Cartoon Show: The Toonami Blog for updates as to date and time.

Boomerang Schedule UPDATES: Teen Titans Go back on the Map.

Whether you like it or not, Teen Titans Go is back on Boomerang.  Actually, it's been back on since October 26.  This is the most recent series for Teen Titans and despite fan complaints about the show, it is a major hit for kids airing MULTIPLE TIMES a day on Cartoon Network.  The show previously aired earlier when Boomerang rebranded, but was axed in the beginning of October due to the coming of Wabbit and other Boomerang acquisitions.  As far as we know, no other shows have been taken off as a result of this change.  If you know otherwise, please comment below.

Teen Titans Go airs weeknights at 9pm on Boomerang.

Shaun the Sheep Blu-ray and DVD releases

At least two Shaun the Sheep DVD releases came out today.  First up is Shaun the Sheep Movie.  Lionsgate today released this film on Blu-ray and DVD as well as digital download on itunes and Amazon.  Although this film bombed in the US box office, critics have written rave reviews about this film and is among the must see films of the year.

Lionsgate also re-released Shaun the Sheep season 1 on DVD.  This set includes all 40 episodes of the season.  It was previously released in 2010 by Hit Entertainment, but the show has since changed hands apparently (not an expert on Shaun the Sheep here).

Shaun the Sheep made his debut on Boomerang last month.  From Aardman Animations and originally released in the UK, Shaun the Sheep is one of Aardman's most popular cartoon series airing on many stations all over the world including Cartoon Network and Disney Chanel.  Other works include Chicken Run and their most famous work, The Wallace and Gromit series.

Shaun the Sheep airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm ET on Boomerang.

Boomerang shows out on DVD

Who says DVD sales are dead?  Well sadly, it's still the truth, BUT there are some releases that are of interest of this page as these shows and characters have aired or is currently airing on Boomerang

First up from VIZ Media and The Pokemon Company is Pokemon the Johto Journeys the Complete Collection.  This combines all the episodes of the Johto Journeys part of Pokemon the anime.  These have been released in the past but as seperate collections.  Consider this a re-release with not much difference in picture quality, but if you missed out on this collection the first time, you now have an oppurtunity to watch again,

Pokemon is currently airing at 6pm ET on Boomerang

Warner Archive has released The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest the Complete Second Season.  This comeback series brings Johnny Quest back in new adventures, but in a more graphic way compared to the original 1960's series.  The first season was released previously into two halves with the first part released in 2009 via Warner Home Video and 2012 via Warner Archive.
Johnny Quest was a major part of Boomerang for many years right up until the recent rebrand

Warner Archive has released Galtar and the Golden Lance on DVD.  This was a series that aired as part of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera.  That show also included Paw Paw Bears and Yogi's Treasure Hunt.
Galtar aired briefly on Boomerang in its early days.  The intro to The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera oddly enough aired every once in a while when a bunch of old Hanna-Barbera shows such as Top Cat.

Warner Archive has released Justice League Unlimited on Blu-ray.  This is the continuation of the Justice League series.  This series was previously released on DVD through Warner Home Video with season 1 in 2006 and season 2 in 2007, but those wishing to have HD copies can now do so.
Justice League has indeed aired on Boomerang at one point in time.
Warner Archive last week released Secret Squirrel and last month they released Atom Ant.  More news to come later this month.

Banana Splits Dune Buggy and Batmobile designer, George Barris, Dies

George Barris, who was a custom car designer for many TV shows and movies has died at the age of 89.  He was best known for his work creating the Batmobile that aired on The Batman TV show in the 1960's  He also designed the many vehicles used in The Banana Splits Adventure Hour including the Dune Buggies.

Perhaps Hanna-Barbera's best known live action series, The Banana Splits were a part of Boomerang during the classic days.  It continued to air until the last winks of the old Boomerang.  It originally aired on Saturday Mornings in the late 1960's

Warner Archive releases Secret Squirrel Complete Collection

Warner Archive today has released Secret Squirrel the Complete Series on DVD.  The collection includes all the episodes along with its supporting segments, Squiddly Diddly and Winsome Witch.

Warner Archive is a special division of Warner Bros. that releases titles that technically would not sell well at stores, so you can order these made to order discs either on their website or by simply going to Amazon.com.  Warner Archive has also been promoting this by posting the original bumper intros to the cartoons which are supposed to be on this collection as well.  This is not to be confused with Super Secret Secret Squirrel which was part of 2 Stupid Dogs.  These are all the original ones only.

Last month, Warner Archive released The Atom Ant Show with much promotion.  These two shows aired on Saturday Morning as part of a whole hour, but best remembered and aired as two different shows.  Warner Archive also has plans to release more cartoons this month including The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest.

Secret Squirrel was a major part of Boomerang when first launched, and it aired for many years on there until the recent rebrand.  Stay with us for the latest on other Warner Archive releases relating to Boomerang

BREAKING NEWS: Charlie Brown Comes to Boomerang

Good Grief......Kidscreen reports that the new animated Peanuts shorts made in France are coming to Boomerang.  This marks the first US deal for these new shorts (about 500 made) and marks the first time that anything Peanuts related will air on Boomerang.

In addition, Boomerang has also announced that they will be supported by its sister network Cartoon Network via promotions on that channel and its Cartoon Network app.  The network since the rebrand brought new premieres of Wabbit, Be Cool Scooby-Doo, and Shaun the Sheep.

Based on the popular comic strip by Charles Schultz, Peanuts follows the story of Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, and the rest of the Peanuts gang including the world's most popular beagle....Snoopy.  Nearly 50 years worth of comic strips, followed by many TV specials and five feature films including the upcoming Peanuts movie coming in November, the characters has since become beloved around the world.  This year marks Peanuts' 65th anniversary and A Charlie Brown Christmas as well as Peanuts specials in general are celebrating 50 years.
Until these shorts show up on the schedule, I won't be covering much of this series until then.  However, like many other properties that have aired or currently airing on Boomerang, this means that any big news about Peanuts will be covered on here.  This is very exciting for me, because this is my favorite cartoon.  And Peanuts will be right at home with other big names currently airing such as Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Pokemon, and many others.  Even Garfield is on Boomerang at the moment.  Stay with us for the latest news about these new Peanuts shorts on Boomerang

Voice Over Actor Marty Ingels Dies

Marty Ingels, husband of Shirley Jones and an actor in his own right, passed away.  He was 79.  Most of his acting career involved gust starring on shows like Dick Van Dyke with his biggest role in I'm Dickens He's Fenster.  For the sake of this blog, however, Ingels was more than that.  He had voiced many of Hanna-Barbera's shows such as Auto Cat in the Cattanooga Cats, Beegle Beagle in The Grape Ape Show, and the voice of Pac-Man.  Another show he guessed starred in was The Adams Family, which also at one point aired on Boomerang for Halloween.

Ingels' most popular cartoon role was that of Pac-Man.  Produced by Hanna-Barbera, this was the first animated adaptation to a video game character.  This and other shows he was on were a major part of Boomerang until the rebrand.  Grape Ape was featured a lot on April Fools Monkey Day.  Christmas Comes to Pacland aired A LOT for Boomerang's Christmas Party.  No news as to if that block will be returning and if so what shows, but stay tuned to this block for the latest.

Condolences are with the family at this time.

Boomerang Theater: Weekend of October 24th-25th

Here is this weekend's Boomerang Theater Schecule:

Saturday: Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico

Sunday:  Tom and Jerry: Blast off to Mars

As always, they air at 9am ET followed by the classic Looney Tunes for a half an hour.

Speaking of Looney Tunes, the classic cartoons on Cartoon Network (Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, which both air on Boomerang) are back into their original aspect ratios (save for maybe the CinemaScope Tom and Jerry Cartoons which may still be incorrect with pan and scan).  You have to watch in HD in order to watch correctly (or else you will have the cartoons windowboxed), but other than that...good move on Boomerang's Sister network AS WILL AN ADDITION 8pm ET hour.  While a step in the right direction (I know about the DBZ Kai controversy for you Toonami fans), Boomerang will still be the ONLY network bringing you 24hrs of cartoons and a variety.  Classics, new episodes, newer series, 90's classics, and anime.  Hey...that's why I do this blog...for that reason ;)
EDIT:  The classic cartoons are back to being stretched to 16:9, so never mind what I said and go back to watching them on Boomerang

"Vanity Smurf" to appear on Stu's Show

Allan Oppenheimer will be Stu's guest this week on Stu's Show.  From Stu's Show's website:

"He's another one of those well known people whose face you recognize because he has literally appeared in thousands of TV shows and movies, as well as voiceover work in tons of animation. As an on-camera actor, he literally made a very steady, successful living going from guest role to guest role each week on different TV series...and we'll talk about many of them: "Get Smart!", "That Girl", "Here's Lucy", "The Six Million Dollar Man", "Murder, She Wrote", "Diagnosis: Murder", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (and "Voyager"), and so many more. His movies include "In the Heat of the Night", "Westworld", and "Helter Skelter". As for cartoons, there's "Mighty Mouse", "Ming the Merciless", "Vanity Smurf", "Skeletor", and the list goes on and on. On stage, he played the part of Cecil B. DeMille in the Glenn Close version of "Sunset Boulevard". We'll cover as much of all this as we can, and we'll also read your e-mails! "

The broadcast begins at 7pm ET/ 4pm PT.  It's free to listen to live, and then will be available in the archives for only 99 cents.  Some other shows he's been on that's aired on Boomerang include Billy and Mandy, The Tom and Jerry Kids Show, Captain Planet, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, Thundar the Barbarian, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, The Scooby-Doo Show, Dynomutt, The Tom and Jerry Show, Hong Kong Phooey, Valley of the Dinosaurs, Inch High Private Eye, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, and Speed Buggy.  Many of these shows have come and gone on Boomerang, but that's only a sample of this guy's works.
The Smurfs were a major part of Boomerang right up until the rebrand, but you can still catch them weeknights everyday on Boomerang.

Wabbit ratings success on Cartoon Network

This picture shows how successful Wabbit was and the good news about the series on Cartoon Network.

It reads: "Well, today was supposed to be the last day of Wabbit premieres on Cartoon Network!  But here's GOOD NEWS!  Apparently, the ratings for the show were so fantastic for the network that the folks above [Bugs Bunny and Squeaks] decided to continue airing on CN, as well as Boomerang as they originally intended!  WHOO-HOO!

So far, only 20 shorts have aired, but that's only a drop in the bucket!  A LOT more shorts are on the way, and they just get better and better!

Those first 20 shorts will be rerun for the next two weeks, then from October 15th onward, new shorts will premiere every Thursday night!  So stay tuned for more Bugs Bunny shorts!"

Wabbit is still set to premiere October 5th at 8pm on Boomerang.

Stay tuned to this blog for some major Boomerang news

EDIT:  Joshua who runs the Building a Better Cartoon Show: The Toonami Blog has this to confirm:

"That's actually incorrect. A new episode of Wabbit is scheduled to air October 8th on CN at 5pm ET. Be Cool, Scooby Doo is getting a similar treatment after it's first week and one day premiere week (new episodes of that will air on CN October 5th-12th and then another one as part of New Thursdays on October 15th)."

Thanks Josh for your help!
